Motivated by a strong passion to extend his impact within the community, Chen Jun decided to participate in Youth Corps Singapore’s Mission X, a programme dedicated to championing youth volunteerism and developing youth community service leaders.
The community service leadership camp proved to be an empowering learning journey for him. From expanding his knowledge of community issues to acquiring skills to be an effective team leader, Chen Jun finds himself better poised to make a difference in the community he serves.
“I was inspired to contribute more to the communities. The programme connected me to resources such as the National Youth Council’s Young ChangeMakers grant, which provided me with the seed funding to curate and develop community projects,” Chen Jun shared. With this funding, he organised a series of meaningful chocolate-making workshops for less privileged children, bringing smiles to their faces and their families.
Imbued with Mission X’s multiplier spirit, Chen Jun stepped up to take on the role of a mentor to younger youth. He encouraged them to join the volunteerism movement in the hopes of amplifying the social impact through collective actions. He was especially heartened when some of his mentees followed his advice and signed up with Mission X to further their involvement in community projects.
Looking back on his Mission X experience, Chen Jun remarked, “Taking part in the programme makes me see the impact that volunteering can create, and gives me the opportunity to be a better version of myself.”
